Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has underlined the challenges and legal processes involved in the process, and stressed on a systematic approach to ensure compliance with the rules while addressing the important issue.
Speaking on the matter, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “The number is very large so we cannot deport them completely at one time. That's why we are deporting them part by part.
There are some legal procedures that we have to follow, we are following them and deporting them and will continue to deport them," the Manipur Chief Minister said.
The statement highlights the complexity of the situation, with a large number of Myanmar nationals seeking refuge or living in Manipur due to various conditions in their home country.
Earlier, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had announced that the initial group of Myanmar nationals who entered India illegally were sent back on Friday.
The initial group included seven individuals, while the subsequent 71 people have been earmarked for phased deportation over the course of three to four days.
A total of 78 foreigners, including 51 women, 5 minors and 22 men, detained at the Imphal Foreign Detention Center are scheduled to be deported.
On the first day, seven Myanmar nationals were airlifted by helicopter from Imphal International Airport to the Manipur-Myanmar border town of Moreh, where they were handed over to Myanmar authorities at the India-Myanmar border gate.
