Germany Advances to Quarter-Finals with Win Over Denmark
Musiala |
Germany celebrated their return to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals for the first time in eight years, thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala in a 2-0 victory over Denmark at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park.
The hosts dominated from the outset and thought they had taken an early lead, but Nico Schlotterbeck's goal was disallowed due to a prior foul. The match experienced a brief halt due to severe weather around the half-hour mark. In the second half, Denmark's Joachim Andersen had a goal ruled out for offside, involving Thomas Delaney.
Andersen was later penalized for a handball in the box, leading to a penalty which Havertz converted in the 53rd minute to break the deadlock. Havertz nearly doubled the lead shortly after, but failed to beat Schmeichel in a one-on-one situation.
