During their first consultative meeting on Tuesday, the Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) and Tikhir Students Union (TSU) decided to hold a "Brotherhood Cultural Exchange Programme". According to a press release, the meeting took place at the Chessore Village Council Conference Hall in Shamator and addressed various issues and challenges faced by both communities.
The unions agreed to organize the "Brotherhood Cultural Exchange Programme" in 2025, which will be hosted by the TSU, to strengthen ties and foster goodwill at the grassroots level.
Describing the meeting as a "landmark and historic moment," YAA president Keyoungkhum K urged tribal student leaders to unite and work towards a shared future. He noted that past conflicts had created significant divisions and emphasized the positive role young people can play in bridging these gaps.
Keyoungkhum encouraged those present to leave behind past grievances and strive for unity, setting an example for all Nagas. TSU president Temong Y Tikhir echoed this sentiment, affirming the enduring brotherhood of the two tribes and acknowledging the hardships faced by the Tikhirs before gaining official recognition as a separate tribe. He highlighted that unity requires patience, forgiveness, and generosity.
Temong Y Tikhir emphasized that Shamator, known as the "Brotherhood District," should symbolize the importance of unity for progress and development. The meeting was led by YAA deputy speaker Shokum KM, with TSU general secretary Napoleon K serving as the recorder.
The program began with an invocation by YAA assembly secretary TS Wongtong. YAA vice president Kiuthrun C Yimchunger highlighted the significance of the meeting, followed by a short prayer session for both teams. The event concluded with remarks by TSU deputy speaker Tantsukiu and a benediction by TSU executive chairman Shri Rechongkiu.
