Nagaland News | SAPO Urges Mao Residents To Relocate Out Of Angami Area
The Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) has directed the Mao tribe people living in the Angami jurisdiction to return to their native villages in Manipur as per customary norms. This was said by SAPO President Er. Tepul Hopovi and General Secretary Swelul Puchho, who also pointed out that the directive on the Mao community came because "the Mao Council has completely failed as part of its ulterior motive to disengage and withdraw Manipur security forces from the disputed Kezoltsa".
Both said SAPO's action had become necessary to reduce tensions, prevent untoward incidents, and protect Mao civilians living in Angami jurisdiction.
DGP Manipur: Meanwhile, Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh has written a letter to his Nagaland counterpart demanding adequate security to the people of Mao community living in Nagaland. "This development is creating concern and panic among the Mao community living in Manipur and Nagaland," Rajiv said while urging the Nagaland DGP to take appropriate action.
It is to be noted that the Angami Public Organization had issued a clear ultimatum to the Mao Council on January 20 this year, demanding full accountability for taking back Manipur from its territory. Rifles/Police and all its security apparatus deployed in the disputed area. 20 February 2024.
The APO said the ultimatum was given to the Mao Council to enable the TPO and APO leaders to "monitor the full range of the dispute and its scope to declare an agreeable and honorable solution". Apparently, despite SAPO's ultimatum to the Mao Council, the demands have not been met and the latest SAPO quit notice on Mao is part of the stance adopted by SAPO.
