In response to the 'Public Emergency' declared within the Eastern Nagaland areas, the Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) on Sunday made an important announcement, declaring a widespread 'complete shutdown' in the Eastern Nagaland jurisdiction. It includes the districts of Kiphire, Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Shameter and Noklak. “This restrictive measure will remain in effect ‘until further notice’, as announced by ENPO.”


In a recent directive circulated by the ENPO control room, notable relaxations have been outlined for various sectors. These exemptions include electricity departments, media establishments, cases of medical emergencies, fire and emergency services, as well as marriage ceremonies. Taking cognizance of these relaxations, ENPO has urged all tribal entities to facilitate seamless coordination with relevant stakeholders.


It may be mentioned that in view of the delay of the Government of India in settling its proposal of creation of 'Frontier Nagaland Territory' through the Ministry, ENPO along with the tribal bodies and frontal organizations declared public emergency in Eastern Nagaland on 5th March. On 8 March, ENPO called for a dawn to dusk strike, during which all government offices, business establishments and schools remained closed.


The ENPO confirmed that all government offices will remain closed during the public emergency, and restrictions on movement of government vehicles (both state and central) will continue.It further warned that any private vehicle found operating for government purposes other than transportation of essential commodities will be confiscated. The ENPO also said that any government office found operating from official or private residences will have to face serious consequences.


ENPO also called for strict implementation of the Chenmoho resolution of February 23, 2024 - "Not to participate in any Central and State elections" against the delay in settling the offer for creation of Frontier Nagaland Area by the Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs. Had announced.


CKS, PPC, TTC NOTIFY: Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), Phom People's Council (PPC) and Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) have informed that in line with the public emergency and continuing to protest against it, the organizations have called for Complete closure in their respective jurisdictions from 12 midnight (midnight) of 11th March till further notice.


This was stated in separate notifications issued by CKS president NY Choba and general secretary S Nayang; PPC president YB Angam, Phomla Hoichem president M Mano and PSC president N Dape Phom and TTC vice president K Asuthong, TWA president Tushila Caroline and TSU president Temong Y Tikhir.




They said that there will be a complete ban on public movement as well as movement of vehicles government and private.
They further said that government offices will remain completely closed; Government and private institutions including schools and colleges and commercial establishments. 
Relaxations have been given for various categories as mentioned in the ENPO Control Room circular. Similar instructions have reportedly been issued by other tribal affiliates of ENPO to their respective units.
