Manipur News | Manipur: FIR lodged against voter who complained about proxy vote
Manipur News

A complaint has been filed against a voter that he broke an electronic voting machine (EVM) at S Ibobi Primary School, located within polling station 3/21 in Khurai assembly constituency of Manipur.

He was identified as S Surajkumar, hailing from the neighborhood of Khurai Thongam Leikai. He reportedly fell into a state of confusion when he was told that his vote had already been cast by unknown persons.

However, he complained but instead, he faced action from the officials present at the polling station.

Surajkumar questioned the action taken by the authorities and argued that he was only trying to exercise his fundamental rights as a voter.

Surajkumar sought a recount after officials inside the polling booth allegedly failed to give a satisfactory explanation as to why his vote was cast earlier. This alleged irregularity led to some persons entering the polling booth and damaging the EVMs in protest against electoral injustice.

Surajkumar clarified that there was no intention to cause any harm to the polling officials during the incident, blaming their alleged negligence in following electoral guidelines for the disturbance.

He also protested against the FIR filed against him, instead demanding repolling at Station 3/21 to improve the situation and ensure fairness in the electoral process.
Surajkumar further said that many voters were unable to cast their votes.

Additionally, he said that an official complaint has been lodged with the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East.
