In a collaborative effort on Wednesday, July 17, law enforcement agencies in Manipur apprehended an individual suspected of drug smuggling and confiscated 129 grams of heroin, with an estimated market value exceeding Rs 60 lakh.

The seizure occurred at the Kwakta crossing point under the jurisdiction of the Phoubakchao Ikhai police station in Bishnupur district.

The operation, which was executed based on specific intelligence, involved a joint team from the Manipur police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Indian Army.

Around 8 a.m., the team conducted a thorough search operation at Kwakta Cross Road, leading to the arrest of Phundreimayum Nawaz Sharif, a 23-year-old resident of Kwakta ward number VIII, in possession of the heroin.

The heroin, concealed in ten soap cases, weighed approximately 129 grams and was valued at around Rs 60 lakh in the local market.

The suspect disclosed that the drugs had been smuggled into Kwakta bazaar from Myanmar through the Churachandpur district.

Both the accused and the confiscated heroin have been handed over to the Manipur police for further legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
