In the continued fight against the drug menace, Nagaland Director General of Police Rupin Sharma reaffirmed his commitment to tackle illegal activities through rigorous investigations and operations statewide. Providing figures, Sharma said that from December 2023 to March 10, 2024, 48 cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, leading to the arrest of 122 persons. He additionally mentioned that a variety of substances ranging from heroin and yaba tablets to ganja, cough syrup, brown sugar and Spasmo Proxyvon tablets were successfully seized.


Highlighting the anti-narcotics approach, Sharma stressed the importance of disrupting the networks of smugglers and suppliers. He noted that although the police played a role in rehabilitation, their focus was mainly on investigating and dismantling drug networks.

Sharma revealed that in the last three months, the police have been successful in arresting criminals from states like Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while the police are still on the lookout for more criminals from states like Jharkhand and Rajasthan .


During interrogation, he said that one of the accused had revealed about his involvement in a drug trafficking network across the country. He said one particular consignment originated from China which went to Netherlands for freight forwarding process and then to Manipur from where it was smuggled to Nagaland and other places.The DGP said that they has also admitted to using cryptocurrency in these operations. He said that this route of drug smuggling is very worrying for the state police.


The DGP also said that recent investigations have also revealed direct supply links from Myanmar to Nagaland and Manipur.
Referring to the arrest of a person for selling SIM cards to drug smugglers, Sharma cautioned those selling SIM cards as smugglers were able to use fake identities to obtain SIM cards.


He also informed about the arrest of a constable from the IR battalion on drug trafficking charges, while another suspect was facing departmental proceedings. Sharma stressed the importance of police personnel communicating with their superiors regarding their sources or informants.

Providing details of the cases from December 1, 2023, to March 15, 2024, IGP (CID) Vikram Khalate said the police registered a total of 48 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These cases resulted in the arrest of 107 persons (82 men and 25 women), while 12 accused were detained under the PITNDPS Act 1988 Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.


During this time frame, he reported that law enforcement seized numerous illegal substances, including 475 kilograms of marijuana, 4 kilograms of heroin, 589 pills of yaba, 346 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 366 grams of other illegal substances of brown sugar, 4,793 SP tablets, 1,664 capsules of Simplex.160 tablets of Nitrozolam, 2468 bottles of cough syrup, 290 strips and 3410 tablets of Alprazolam, 144 capsules of Tramadol and 41 other tablets.
Police Commissioner Dimapur, K. Sophie informed that a total of 10 cases were registered in Dimapur, resulting in the arrest of 40 persons between December 1, 2023 and March 15, 2024. Of the persons arrested, 30 were male and 10 were female. 


During this period, law enforcement officers seized various drugs, including 1823.5 grams of heroin-related substances, 348 grams of crystal meth, 2169 grams of "World is Yours" tablets, 260 tablets of alprazolam, 60 tablets of nitrozolam, and 10 bottles of . cough syrup. The estimated value of the seized drugs is approximately Rs. 1,26,23420.


It was noted that a large number of the arrested drug smugglers, about 80%, were not residents of Nagaland, although most lived in Dimapur. Although Dimapur serves as a transit point for illegal drugs, the availability of drugs has recently decreased, causing prices to rise due to lack of supply.
