Vice President of India and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday administered the oath to 10 newly elected members of the upper house of Parliament. Those who were sworn in include Mayankbhai Jaydevbhai Nayak, Narayansa K Bhandage, Milind Murali Deora, Ajit Madhavrao Gopchade, Renuka Chaudhary, Amarpal Maurya, Sanjay Seth, Ramji Lal Suman, Sagarika Ghosh and Mamta Thakur.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the recently inaugurated Parliament House. Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Thakur was re-administered the oath as she had replaced the word "Sri Sri Hari Guru Chand Thakur" In place of "God" while taking the oath of office. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar insisted that she read the prescribed format instead of deviation. This episode has sparked a controversy as Harichand Thakur is considered a saint by the Matua community, to which Thakur belongs.
