A college teacher on Lok Sabha election duty died in a road accident in Assam's Lakhimpur district on Saturday.
Rajib Lekharu, 57, a distinguished assistant professor at Bihpuria College, met with an accident on Saturday while returning home after completing his duties as presiding officer during the elections.
The unfortunate incident occurred around 4:45 am in Mazgaon on NH-15 near Silanibari police post, about 10 km from his home.
A man driving a Honda City (AS07J 3766) met with a fatal accident when his vehicle collided with a bus, resulting in his instant death.
Professor Lekhru was on his way to Bihpuria after dutifully collecting polling material in North Lakhimpur following the successful completion of polling during the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 19.
His demise has deeply affected the peaceful and incident-free voting in Lakhimpur district.
